My name is Matt. I used to work as a developer for Microsoft on Windows Presentation Foundation and before that, Internet Explorer. Although it started off as a sort of dream come true, eventually I got frustrated watching what I felt were more interesting things going on in more open environments.
I spent a couple years just hanging out, basically. I needed to reboot and gain some perspective. I got a dog, and that took up a good amount of my energy. You can read more about it on my dog blog, Doxie News.
I started doing web design through my company, Mattifesto, for friends and small businesses. I was attracted to the fact that I could actually help real people. They are fun to work with and sincerely thankful which makes it very rewarding.
I also like the fact that I can use a Mac. I started using Macs again probably about 5 years ago. I love Mac OS X, and I love Safari. It’s great that Nextstep has turned into a mainstream OS. And Safari is an awesome browser to develop on. I also use the following products and services heavily: Cornerstone, Dreamhost, Painter, Photoshop, Smugmug, SubEthaEdit, Subversion, and of course WordPress.
I think WordPress is great. In most cases, I can’t imagine making a website and not using WordPress, even for non-blogs. I have my own content management system for simple sites, but at this point I can fairly quickly spin WordPress into looking like anything I want, so I don’t see any reason to use anything else.
On this blog you’ll read about my adventures in designing and developing for the web.
